Association of Art Museum Directors
AAMD 100
In 2016, we helped the Association of Art Museum Directors celebrate its centennial by interviewing museum directors from North and South America on the subject of “what is an art museum?” SandenWolff principal Rachel conducted all 49 interviews and wove the directors’ responses into a dynamic essay on the significance of the museum within our culture. We also worked with the network of museums to source and clear relevant existing footage from many of these institutions and also shot original stylized “art museum” footage of our own at The Met. This content was created as a single eight minute film but also broken into three chapters: What is an art museum? Who are art museums for? What do art museums do?
The main film screened as a full 8-minute presentation at the AAMD’s 100 year anniversary gala. and then recut as a three-part episodic video.
In addition to the main film, we repackaged the content into a series of mini-clips in which each museum director shared with us their most formative art museum experiences. See below for the full suite.
