Studio Museum Harlem: 50th Anniversary
The Studio Museum in Harlem
50th Anniversary
For five decades, The Studio Museum in Harlem has been a champion for artists of African descent and the work they create. Founded in Harlem in 1968 by a diverse group of artists, community activists, and philanthropists, the Studio Museum was envisioned to be a site for radical experimentation and serve as a new kind of art museum that would not only provide much-needed exhibition opportunities for black artists, but also would support artistic development through an artist residency program and engage its neighborhood through education and public programs for all ages.
